Get Prepared, California!™
CEA and Red Cross: Joining Forces for a fifth year
Most Californians live within 30 miles of an active fault. It's not a matter of if, but when, the next earthquake will strike.
The California Earthquake Authority (CEA) and American Red Cross (Red Cross) have joined forces to help more people prepare to survive and recover from California's next earthquake.
CEA and Red Cross are working together to deliver important information on earthquake preparedness by combining Red Cross’s expertise on preparing a kit, making a family disaster plan, and being informed, with CEA's expertise on residential earthquake insurance and retrofitting houses so that they are more resistant to earthquake damage.
To help motivate more people to increase their earthquake preparedness, we have joined forces to promote the unique event: the Get Prepared, California! AuctionSM in April 2016 and the Great California ShakeOut in October.
The CEA is a publicly managed, privately funded, not-for-profit organization that encourages California homeowners, mobilehome owners, condo unit owners and renters to reduce their risk of earthquake damage and loss through education, mitigation and insurance. A CEA policy can help repair or rebuild your damaged home and replace your valuable personal belongings after an earthquake.
The American Red Cross is a non-profit, humanitarian organization that prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
Residents in California are supported by a collaboration of 20 chapters in local communities and more than 22,000 volunteers who provide relief to families affected by disasters and training to more than 70,000 people each year in lifesaving first aid, CPR, and disaster preparedness skills. The Red Cross also reconnects families separated by international armed conflict or disasters and supports members of the armed forces and military families living in California.
